SYS team member Chloe indulges us in her love for stripes...

There’s just something mesmerising about stripes, a timeless pattern which never seems to go out of style - appealing to both minimalists and maximalists alike.
You can subtly layer stripes with other prints, which gives structure to a palette (and yet still feels playful, especially alongside florals). This entrance is all about the wallpaper, while cleverly combining a midi-striped bench by Colours of Arley with checkerboard tiling. We think this much green should always be seen, by the way.

Stripes lend themselves particularly well to making a statement, which is where you can go bold on bigger bits of furniture - like this rainbow-striped sofa by Octavia Dickinson in her eye-catching Albie fabric. That ruffled skirt is seriously making us swoon. Or the striking Studio Chairs by Buchanan Studio (seen below in ‘Indigo’) which have quite rightly taken social media by storm.

Whether horizontal or vertical, classic stripes always redirect the eye – but stripes with a twist go one step further and are an imaginative take on the pattern du jour. Take this beautiful bathroom in Katharine Howard’s home decorated in Soane’s ‘Scrolling Fern’ as our case in point.

The magical space-enhancing powers of stripes can elongate a room, smarten a space, and exaggerate design elements where needed. Stripes also make smaller, decorative pieces more impactful, like scatter cushions, lamp shades, throws, and ceramics – which is where our shoppable stripes edit comes in, available in store and online.
